Christmas Laser File FAQ
Can I sell products made from these Christmas files?
Yes. Every file on FreeLaserFile is free for personal and commercial use with no attribution required. You can cut ornaments and sell them at markets, on Etsy, or anywhere else. You cannot resell the digital files themselves.
What material works best for Christmas ornaments?
3mm birch plywood is the standard: it cuts in a single pass on most diode lasers, holds fine detail, and finishes well with stain or paint. 3mm MDF is cheaper but the edges char more and it does not take stain evenly. For a frosted look, 3mm clear or white acrylic engraves beautifully.
What thickness should I use for hanging ornaments?
3mm is the sweet spot. Thinner than 2mm and thin sections snap when handled; thicker than 4mm gets heavy on a tree branch and doubles your cutting time. Make hanging holes at least 3mm across so ribbon or twine passes through easily.
Will these files work with my Glowforge or xTool?
Yes. Files download in SVG and DXF, the two formats every laser platform reads. Glowforge users import the SVG into app.glowforge.com; xTool, Ortur, Sculpfun, Atomstack and OMTech users open the SVG or DXF in LightBurn or xTool Creative Space.
When should I start cutting for Christmas?
September for market sellers, October for online shops. Search demand for Christmas laser files rises through September, peaks in the last week of November, and drops off sharply after 15 December once shipping cutoffs pass.
