Wood Laser Cutting FAQ
What is the best file format for laser cutting wood?
SVG and DXF are the best formats. SVG works natively with Glowforge and most diode lasers. DXF is preferred by LightBurn, RDWorks, and professional CO2 laser software. All files here come in both formats.
What type of wood is best for laser cutting?
3mm birch plywood is the most popular. MDF is great for painted projects. Basswood works for fine detail. Hardwoods (walnut, cherry) require more power but produce beautiful results.
What laser power do I need?
3mm plywood: 40W CO2 or 10W+ diode. 6mm plywood: 60W CO2 or 20W+ diode. Glowforge Basic handles up to 1/4" plywood. xTool D1 Pro 20W cuts up to 10mm.
Can I sell products made with these files?
Yes. All files are free for commercial use. Cut them, sell the finished wood products — no license or attribution needed.
