Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about downloading and using free DXF & SVG files from FreeLaserFile.

Getting Started

What is FreeLaserFile?

FreeLaserFile is a free library of DXF, SVG, AI, and CDR files for laser cutting, CNC routing, and plasma cutting. All 1,800+ designs are free to download without registration, and free for commercial use.

Do I need to create an account to download files?

No. Download any file directly — no account, no email, no registration required.

Are the files really free?

Yes. All files are completely free. No subscription, no premium tier, no hidden fees. FreeLaserFile is funded by advertising (Google AdSense).

Can I use these files for commercial purposes?

Yes. All files are free for both personal and commercial use. You can cut and sell products made from these designs — no royalties, no attribution required.

File Formats

What file formats are available?

Most designs are available in DXF (Drawing Exchange Format), SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), AI (Adobe Illustrator), and CDR (CorelDRAW). DXF and SVG are available for virtually all designs.

What is the difference between DXF and SVG?

DXF is the industry standard for CNC machines and plasma cutters — it contains precise mathematical geometry. SVG is a web-standard vector format ideal for Glowforge, Cricut, and design software like Inkscape. For laser cutting, both work equally well. Use SVG for Glowforge, DXF for LightBurn and plasma tables.

Which format should I download?

Glowforge users: SVG. LightBurn users: SVG or DXF. xTool Creative Space: SVG or DXF. CorelDRAW: CDR or DXF. Adobe Illustrator: AI or SVG. Inkscape (free): SVG. AutoCAD/plasma: DXF.

Machine Compatibility

Do these files work with Glowforge?

Yes. Download the SVG file and upload it to app.glowforge.com. All SVG files on FreeLaserFile are Glowforge-compatible. The Glowforge app supports SVG, PDF, PNG, and JPG.

Do these files work with xTool (D1, M1, P2, S1)?

Yes. Download SVG or DXF and import into xTool Creative Space or LightBurn. All xTool models are supported. LightBurn is the recommended software for xTool for advanced control.

Do these files work with Sculpfun (S9, S10, S30)?

Yes. Download SVG or DXF and use with LightBurn or LaserGRBL. Sculpfun machines are GRBL-based and work with all standard vector formats.

Do these files work with Ortur Laser Master?

Yes. Ortur Laser Master 2, 3, and Pro all support SVG and DXF via LightBurn or LaserGRBL. Download the DXF or SVG file and import directly.

Are the files compatible with LightBurn?

Yes. All SVG and DXF files on FreeLaserFile import directly into LightBurn without modification. Drag and drop or use File > Import. Compatible with all GRBL and Ruida DSP machines.

Do these files work with Cricut?

Yes. Download the SVG file and import it into Cricut Design Space. Cricut supports SVG natively. Note: Cricut is a cutting plotter, not a laser — use it for vinyl, paper, and lightweight materials.

Do the files work with plasma cutters?

Yes. DXF files work with plasma cutting software like PlasmaCAM, Mach3, LinuxCNC, SheetCAM, and most other plasma table controllers. Download the DXF format for plasma cutting.

Software

What software can open these files?

LightBurn, Glowforge app, xTool Creative Space, LaserGRBL, CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape (free), AutoCAD, Fusion 360, PlasmaCAM, Mach3, SheetCAM, and virtually all CNC/laser software.

Is Inkscape free and does it work with these files?

Yes. Inkscape is free (inkscape.org) and opens both SVG and DXF files perfectly. It is a powerful vector editor ideal for modifying laser cut designs before sending them to your machine.

How do I open a DXF file on a Mac?

Use Inkscape (free), Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, or LightBurn. On Mac, LightBurn is the most popular choice for laser cutting — it opens DXF natively and controls your laser directly.

Downloads & Files

Why do I have to wait before downloading?

A short countdown (5 seconds) allows an ad impression to load, which is how FreeLaserFile funds hosting and adds new designs for free. Disabling your ad blocker ensures the fastest experience.

Why is my download blocked?

If you have an ad blocker enabled, downloads may be blocked. FreeLaserFile is funded by advertising — please whitelist the site to support free file hosting.

Are the files tested and ready to cut?

Yes. All files on FreeLaserFile are quality-checked: connected paths, no overlapping contours, no open paths, and accurate kerf allowance. They are ready to send to your machine.
